Coaching before anything is a relationship.
A good relationship will recognize talent, then motivate discovery.
If I was to offer advice to an up-and-coming coach, it would be to only work with athletes you really like. When you like and respect your athlete you will do anything for them, and they will return the complement, that is how we make champions.
A small but honest thought for the boys I admire and respect in a game that takes no prisoners, a special breed of athlete you can not fake.
Train hard but smart!
As we move through one training phase to the next we are very mindful of timing. Often we look at a training performance and notice we are ahead of schedule, this is not always a good thing so an adjustment is made to avoid leaving hard work in the gym. The Ringside team are fortunate to have some tough sparring with Tyson Sykes and the Mayhem boxing team from Auckland, three more weeks and we are ready to find out where we are in the ring. Stay tuned in and bring your support team on the 6th and 19th Feb.
